For months, Waititu who is facing corruption charges, has been trying to access the president so that he can have a number of cases haunting him dropped.

“Who told you,” he retorted when asked about his unfruitful efforts to meet the head of state.

At various stopovers on Wednesday from Nairobi to Suswa, security guards were keen to put Waititu at bay, reducing him to a mere spectator.

His efforts to take a photo with the president and fellow governors Mike Sonko, Alfred Mutua, Lee Kinyanjui and Ole Lenku were equally futile as guards kept an eye on him.

“I was there in my capacity as the Governor of Kiambu. What was wrong with that,” Waititu asked.

Interestingly, throughout the drama, Waititu's deputy James Nyoro was enjoying the president's company. Nyoro has assumed duties as 'acting governor' following Waititu's tribulations.

During the burial of Peter Kenneth’s mother Rahab Wambui in July, Waititu made desperate attempts to speak to the President about his case.

“When he got a chance he asked the President to help him get the charges dropped but he was told to carry his own cross,” a source aware of the developments said.

Recently, Uhuru said that he had stopped picking calls from his friends facing graft, a move that explains Waititu's struggles to reach him.

During the commemoration of founding President Jomo Kenyatta, Waititu was heard blaming Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and Nyoro for his woes.
