Modern Coast bus company has issued a statement following a grisly road accident involving two of its buses that took the lives of several people and left many more with injuries.
In its statement posted on Facebook, the company said that investigations had been opened to establish the exact circumstances of the deadly accident.
It apologised to its customers for the inconvenience that had been caused by the grounding of its fleet.
Here is the statement in full:
"In the early hours of 12th December, two of our buses were involved in a terrible accident along Mombasa - Nairobi highway.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the passengers, our staff members and their families involved in this tragedy.
We commend the response team and community for their quick action to aiding the survivors at the site of the accident. Modern Coast Express Limited has been committed to the road safety regulations.
Our buses are road worthy and all our drivers are well trained, scrutinized and fully experienced.
An investigation has been launched into this accident and our customer care team is live to assist with any queries.
We are working with NTSA and will be meeting with them tomorrow to resolve this issue and come up with a concrete plan of action.
For those who had already booked to travel with us, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and a refund of the same will be initiated from Monday 16th December 2019.
Please note that we will issue a complete statement once the investigations have been completed but we will keep you updated on any further developments."
NTSA has already issued a directive stopping the company from operating following the accident.
