The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has finally suspended its embattled Secretary General Wilson Sossion.
This, however, comes only a day after Sossion, also an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated Member of Parliament, vowed to stand his ground and remain in place.
But in a press conference on Friday, the union Chair Wycliffe Omucheyi announced that Sossion has been placed aside, and has been replaced with Hesbone Otieno.
He noted that Sossion has not been in good relationship with both members of the Knut and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Hw termed this the reason behind the move to replace him with his deputy on an acting capacity, as the union charts its next move.
“We have not had a good relationship with Teachers Service Commission, the Ministry of Education and the government,”he said.
Mr Omucheyi added that Sossion has also been making decisions touching on the commission independently, in exclusion of the union.
Mr Otieno hailed the move, faulting Sossion for being in constant fights with the TSC, and claiming that he has been undermining the commission's top leadership.
“We cannot have a leader who always fights the government, we want to have a cordial relationship with the government,” he added.
Registrar of Trade Unions E.N Gichera also adopted a letter forwarded to her on Thursday, after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that ousted Sossion.
Consequently, Sossion's name has been deleted from the registry of trade unions.
