President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the untimely death of Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso.

 In a tweet, Uhuru said that Laboso was an icon of women leadership and pillar of strength in her family. 

The commander in chief of the armed forces said that he was shocked after learning about the demise of Laboso.

"I have received the sad news of the passing away of Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso with utter disbelief. Dr Laboso was an icon of women leadership in our country. May God grant the family, residents of Bomet and all Kenyans the fortitude to bear the big loss," he tweeted.

Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in government, also asked Kenyans to stand with the family of the deceased during this time of trial.

The governor died on Monday while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital at the age of 59.

The governor died two weeks after she landed back to Kenya on July 14. She spent the time on a medical trip to India and the United Kingdom.

While undergoing treatment, the governor was visited by different leaders from all over Kenya including Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and Chief Justice David Maraga among others.

 She had shown signs of improvement before she eventually died.
