A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of 31-year-old Joyce Syombua and her two children Shanice Maua, 10, and Prince Michael, 5.

The suspect, who was later identified as James Maina Mwangi, was arrested by detectives on Friday as probe into the matter gains momentum. 

The man is believed to have colluded with the prime suspect Major Peter Mugure in executing the heinous act. 

Mugure was detained for 21 days pending hearing and determination of charges levelled against him.

"A THIRD SUSPECT forensically connected with the Shocking murder of three people (Syombua, Shanice and Prince Michael) was today arrested by @DCI_Kenya Detectives. The 48yr old James Maina Mwangi,a Technician at #Nanyuki 43 Ordinance Composite Company is believed to have planned the execution and disposal of the bodies, together with the main suspect - Major Peter Mwaura. He remains in our custody as further enquires into the horrendous murder continues," DCI tweeted.

The bodies of the deceased were discovered at Makaburini in Thingithu area, Nanyuki while buried. The discovery was made after police officers quizzed the major suspect for days before he gave them leads to the place where they had been buried in shallow graves. 

The suspect and the deceased's wife were reportedly in an on-and-off relationship.
