Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i's development record in Kisii and Nyamira Counties have come under immense criticism even with reports that he chairs cabinet meetings.
A local daily on Wednesday claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta had delegated most of his duties including chairing of cabinet meetings to the powerful minister.
But on Tuesday, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, a close ally of Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, said that the minister had done nothing to the Abagusii community.
"He should first concentrate on service delivery. He was given powerful seat by the president. We just want to see development. He has powers to at least allocate more resources to the region," he said.
According to the first term MP, Dr Matiang'i is yet to launch any mega project in Kisii and Nyamira, adding that before launching any serious political bid, he ought to develop the region.
"We don't want him to push projects especially those on budget. Let him get us something unique. So far he has done nothing to the Abagusii community," he argued.
A section of leaders led by Governor John Nyagarama and Senator Okong'o Mogeni of Nyamira are currently pushing for Matiang'i presidency.
While the minister is yet to declare ambitions, a number of his close allies have been pushing for his candidature. Recently, he met at least 14 MPs from the two counties at his Harambee House offices.
