Health officials in China are working round the clock to contain a deadly virus, CNN has reported.
According to the CNN report, at least 6 people have died while about 300 people are said to be infected by the coronavirus.
The virus was first detected in the Chinese central city of Wuhan.
A series of measures have been taken to contain its spread including the cancellation of New Year celebrations and imposing a ban on tour companies taking people from the city hammered by the virus.
The Guardian newspaper reported that share prices went down amid fears of the deadly virus.
“Because of Chinese New Year, millions of people will make a move to their hometown across China which is making the whole situation uncontrollable,” said Margaret Yang, an analyst at brokerage CMC Markets in Singapore, as quoted by the Guardian.
The new virus is said to cause pneumonia and its mode of transmission is human-to-human contact.
"It took only two weeks to identify the novel coronavirus," Zhong Nanshan, the head of the National Health Commission, said as quoted by Aljazeera.
"Currently, it can be said it is affirmative that there is the phenomenon of human-to-human transmission," he added.
