Deputy President William Ruto lacks the capacity to convince millions of Kenyans to back his presidential bid before 2022, Former Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has said.
In a post on Facebook, Murathe said that Ruto is only influential in Uasin Gishu. He questioned Ruto’s ability to root for a change in the constitution in reference to Uasin Gishu county’s decision to support Thirdway Alliance Leader Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo proposal.
Murathe affirmed that Ruto’s presidential dream is as good as dead. He reminded him that his backyard is not enough to enable his rise to power.
“William Ruto was not in a position to convince more than ten counties to accept the infamous punguza mzigo thing. How do these people expect Ruto to convince millions of Kenyans? Uasin Gishu alone cannot make Ruto the head of state,” he said.
Murathe has been one of the fiercest critics of the second in command. In a past interview, he alluded that he will do everything within his means to ensure that Ruto is not on the ballot box.
He claims Ruto has been embroiled in endless corrupt dealings and he must clear his name before he can contest in any presidential race. Murathe has hinted at supporting ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga for the presidency when that time comes.
