The Muslims led by the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Uasin Gishu Chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini and businessman Hassan Kosgei said the move was meant to ensure the street urchins celebrate Christmas just like other Kenyans.

“We aim to ensure that children who live off from remains of the dustbins enjoy and join other Kenyans in celebrating Christmas since the are just people like us and we should not discriminate,” said Sheikh Abubakar Bini who spoke to the press after serving lunch to the over 500 street children in Eldoret town on Tuesday.

“As Kenyans let us help those who are less privileged in the society as a way of thanksgiving and ensuring that Kenyans embrace the spirit of sharing and giving without looking at their religious or political differences,” added Hassan Kosgei.

They also challenged the government to recover all the public money stolen through corruption and redirect it to programs that can help change the lives of street children who are increasing by the day.

The group of Muslims further called on both the County and National governments to construct home with modern facilities where genuine street children can be helped and call home.

They also called on parents to take up their responsibilities of raising children and stop abandoning them to a harsh life on the streets.
