The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has banned Marathoner champion Sammy Kiprop Kitwara from competing in the different contests over doping.
The athlete was hit with the shocker after he failed the doping test in a competition that took place in Seoul, South Korea on March 17.
The career of the athlete is now at risk after he tested positive for Terbutaline. The athlete has already admitted using the boosters.
He told The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) that he has no plans to appeal the ban after he was found guilty of the same.
A statement from the body indicated that the athlete was aware of the doping rules, therefore, will not be spared at all.
“Taking into consideration the fact that the Athlete is relatively experienced and that there are no other mitigating factors, the AIU considers the Athlete’s subjective fault to be at the ‘high’ end of the ‘normal’ category,” read part of the statement.
The ban comes after the government through the Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed cautioned Kenyan athletes against doping.
Amina has been asking athletes to train and not opt for shortcuts. She has also maintained that the government will always take cases of doping seriously.
