Makueni lawmaker Dan Maanzo has lauded Deputy President William Ruto over his recent declaration that he is ready to shelve his 2022 presidential bid if it will upset the country.

The DP made the remarks in December last year when he hosted a section of Kikuyu and Kalenjin politicians at his home in Sugoi, Turbo, in Uasin Gishu county.

Maanzo now says that Kenya needs more of such people, selfless politicians who are ready to shelve their personal goals for the sake of the well being of the country.

Speaking on Citizen TV's Day Break on Monday, he urged more leaders to come out and make such declarations, to ensure that Kenya remains calm after the 2022 general polls.

"We have seen even suggestions by the current Deputy President that if he is the one going to bring problems in this country he'd rather shelve his ambitions so that Kenya can go ahead. We want more leaders like that," he said.

He observed that this was kicked off by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga, who in March 2018 buried the hatchet and reached a truce for a peaceful country.

He pointed out that the same can be emulated by other politicians, with the main goal being to ensure that peace and calm prevails.

"We are seeing a situation where President Uhyey Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, who were leaders of two major parties NASA and Jubilee said Kenya is higher than us, let sit down and talk, let us get the beat for the country," he added.

However, though the DP appears to be going slow on Raila, his sworn rival, lately, his allies have continued attacking the former Premier, as well as Uhuru.
