Deputy President William Samoei Ruto remains one of the high potential aspirants to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta come 2022.
At the same time, his name has adversely been mentioned in controversies, a thing that could deal him a big blow ahead of the next general elections.
However, the top issues that could kill his dream include;
1. Alleged mega Corruption scandals
It is undeniably true that Ruto's name has featured in several multi-billion corruption scandals. Among the top scandals include the maize and Arror, Kimwarer dam projects. Therefore, if he intends to get an upper hand in succeeding Uhuru, then he must work on clearing his name ahead of time.
2. Political mergers
The success of Kenyan politics and elections is largely dependent on political alliances and popularity of the party flag bearers. In this regard, DP Ruto should cast his cards carefully in determining the viable political alliances that will earn him a direct ticket. Any single mistake will definitely force him out of the State House race.
3. Jubilee's unfulfilled promises
Ahead of the disputed successive 2013 and 2017 general elections, Jubilee party issued a number of promises which are yet to be achieved or even fulfilled to the electorate. As is the case with elections, citizens have made it a habit to evaluate a candidate's suitability for reelection by looking at the score card. Having this in mind, DP Ruto should liaise with his boss and ensure all unfulfilled promises are sorted ahead of time.
Failure, Ruto could become a joyrider as he will have nothing to tell to the electorate on his suitability come 2022.
