Celebrated actor Davies Mwabili alias Inspekta Mwala will face murder charges on Friday for allegedly killing a pedestrian.
Mwala was released on a police cash bail of Sh40,000 after being held at Rabai Police Station for interrogation on Monday night and will be arraigned in court on Friday to face murder charges.
Rabai sub-county police commander, David Maina confirmed the release and planned arraignment.
The police are seeking more evidence against the actor after it was reported he caused death by dangerous driving. Maina said they rescued the radio presenter from an angry mob.
Police say that he is likely to face charges of driving while drunk. It was reported that he hit Samuel Mwaki after veering off the road at Kwa Randi area.
According to Kilifi Police Commander Patrick Okeri, Mwala was travelling from Kaloleni town on Mazeras Highway when he killed the 35-year-old man. The comedian tried to overtake another car then veered off the road hitting the victim.
Police told the Standard that the victim's body was taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary in Mombasa.
The accident comes after a video surfaced online of Mwala trying to forcefully kiss Melody Sinzore. He later apologised but it is not yet clear if the incident was genuine or stage-managed.
