Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta not to appoint an Auditor General from Mt Kenya region.
The country is yet to fill the Auditor General position following the exit of Mr Edward Ouko, who had served his 8-year term.
The government re-advertised the position recently after it emerged that the shortlisted candidates did not meet certain preferences.
Public Service Commission Chairman Stephen Kirogo said that the government will give prospective applicants 14 days to apply for the position and applications will be valid until December 30.
“A panel for the selection of nominees for appointment as Auditor-General will be selected not later than 14 days after the closure of the application window that is 12th January 2020,” said Kirogo as quoted by People Daily.
But Ole Kina now wants Uhuru to focus out of Mt Kenya, arguing that the region has been a beneficiary of plum state jobs.
"As we end the year & continue our debate on #BBI let us be 💯 % honest with each other! Mr. President what is going on with the position of the Auditor General? I sure do hope it’s not being reserved for another Kikuyu elite as all the new jobs have been field with! Happy 20/20," he tweeted.
Mr Ole Kina has been in the frontline fighting against marginalisation and has often questioned Uhuru's appointments.
