A Molo court on Thursday sentenced a 27-year-old man to life imprisonment for defiling his 7-year-old niece at his home in Molo, Nakuru county July last year.
Reports on Kenya News Agency indicate that Molo Resident Magistrate, Emmanuel Soita said he had been convinced that the accused identified as John Karanja was guilty of the offence.
“The law is very clear on such offences and the only sentence provided for defilement of a child aged 11 years and below is life Imprisonment,” the magistrate said.
According to witness statements, the accused sneaked the minor out of the house on the night of July 30, 2018, undressed, and defiled her as other family members were asleep.
The accused allegedly threatened to kill the minor if she reported the incident.
A medical examination report submitted in court by Dr Rodgers Namisi of the Molo sub-county hospital, indicated that the girl had been defiled.
“After examining the minor, there was overwhelming indicators that the minor had been asexually assaulted,” Dr Namisi testified.
The accused was given 14 days to appeal the judgement if unsatisfied.
