Former Isiolo Woman Representative Tiyah Galgalo has been handed a reprieve after her nomination to the National Lands Commission (NLC) was given a greenlight.
Parliament had refused to clear her name after it emerged that she had not paid her taxes as required by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
The approval came after days of intense lobbying from different groups after parliament said she was not eligible to hold the office if she cannot pay taxes like any other law abiding citizen.
Citizen Digital indicates that 114 members voters for her as she seeks to be given the position.
The voting went against the earlier reports that had recommended that she is rejected from the post because of being non-tax compliant.
Seventy of the lawmakers voted for the quashing of her nominations.
There were intrigues that preceded the sitting that saw the former Women rep sail through the process in a smooth manner.
KRA’s commissioner in-charge of domestic taxes Elizabeth Meyo wrote to the National Assembly to confirm that the former lawmaker is tax compliant after she said she was ready to pay the fine if that was the only way she could be approved to go for the seat.
The politician had earlier faulted external forces for her woes before she was approved.
