Former Agricultural minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa has tipped the national government on ways to deal with the Mau conservancy issue.
According to Kipruto Kirwa, the government should begin identifying and 'categorizing' settlers in the aforementioned area, be it illegal, legal, those with irregular title deeds or any other category.
"We need to categorize the settlers we have in Mau. There those who are illegal, those who are legal and those who have irregular titles," argued Kirwa.
The former ANC deputy party leader argued that the national government bears the responsibility of finding a lasting solution to address the issue. He noted that the government could resolve it through a 'cabinet paper' that would be prepared by the concerned ministries.
The paper would explicitly 'outline' the ministries that would deal with the problem.
"The solution lies in a cabinet paper outlining the ministers who are going to be responsible for this," he noted.
In his opinion, environmental, land, finance among other relevant ministries ought to be involved in seeking the necessary resolutions to the disputation.
Cherang'any ex-MP insisted that the government has to work in collaboration with the cabinet ministries whenever such an issue of concern comes up.
Kirwa proposed that a proper audit of the settlements established in the forest should be initiated by the ministry of interior to begin identifying and flushing out illegal settlers then other appropriate steps of reclaiming the land follow.
He hit out on past regimes for failing to address the issue which he said had been a thorn in the flesh since 1973.
