City lawyer Steve Ogolla now claims the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is a strategy by President Uhuru Kenyatta to block his deputy William Ruto from succeeding him in 2022.
Ogolla said the DP was aware that BBI was a tool against him, but was not ready to accept that fact, arguing that is why he has been sending mixed signals about it.
He made the remarks after Ruto allies made an about-turn about BBI, and decided to attend upcoming sensitisation rallies having boycotted Kisii and Kakamega meetings.
"BBI is a political formation designed by UHURU to lock Ruto out of power, for whatever reason. Yet Ruto remains stranded in denial. Otherwise he'd know there's no political dividend in attending BBI Mombasa or other rallies. He's unwanted there. How's this difficult to grasp?" Ogolla tweeted on Thursday.
Before Tanga Tanga leaders announced they will join BBI meetings, they have been accusing the handshake team of using taxpayers' money during the rallies.
About two weeks ago, Ruto dismissed BBI saying it has been turned into a political tool for 2022 elections by Raila Odinga-led ODM, and was also being used to tear apart the ruling Jubilee Party.
"We accept that BBI/handshake has been hijacked to craft ODM's 2022 political line up. Unity/inclusivity pretence and associated squander of public resources should stop.Unity? The opposition (NASA) is already dismembered/dead; now dividing Jubilee. Big 4 roll out only way to go," the DP tweeted.
