According to the magistrate, Achieng willingly left her kids to suffer.

“Based on the evidence provided before the court and the witness testimonies, the court found substantial evidence linking her to child neglect,” ruled the court

Achieng was accused of abandoning her babies near Kadera Kwoyo Adventist Church in March this year. She was apprehended in August.

More than three witnesses testified in this case.

The magistrate in his ruling cited Section 127 (1)(a) of the Children’s Act No 8 of 2001 which prohibits parents, guardians and anybody else who has responsibility to take care of children from exposing them to any form of suffering.

It further indicates that such a person should be jailed for a term of not more than five years or handed a fine not exceeding Sh200, 000 or both.

The court gave Achieng 14 days to appeal her sentence failure to which she will serve three years behind bars.
