The calls by a section of politicians to implement the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report through a referendum is continuing to elicit mixed reactions with Garissa Township MP Aden Duale being the latest leader to slam the pro-referendum camp.
While hitting out at ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and his political brigade, Duale asked the former prime minister to shelve his referendum calls and instead focus on development.
"The BBI report was out last week and even before its contents sink in us, the brigades of the former Prime Minister Hon Raila Odinga are out singing BBI on one hand and referendum on the other. In fact, if you were a foreigner in this country you would likely believe from local news either we were so near an election year or we sleep referendum or wake up referendum," Duale said in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.
The BBI report which was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, last week, has divided the country's political class right in the middle with the pro-Raila camp rooting for a referendum. However, the other group allied to Deputy President William Ruto wants the report to be taken to Parliament.
