South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro has pleaded with Kisii residents to visit health centres for cancer screening.
Addressing journalists in Kisii town on Sunday, the vocal legislator raised concerns over the increased cancer-related deaths in the country.
"I urge residents of Kisii County to go to hospitals for cancer screening. Cancer has become a menace that is killing our people. If residents are screened in time and find that they are suffering from cancer, treatment can be administered thus treating the disease unlike when the disease is detected at the advanced stages," he said.
The youthful lawmaker appealed to the government to set up more cancer centers across the country for the sake of providing treatment to poor Kenyans who can not afford to travel abroad to seek medication.
"The government has not done much to mitigate cancer. On behalf of the poor Kenyans, I am urging the government under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to invest more on health purposely to address the cancer menace," he said.
He further said the national government should send more funds to counties to improve the provision of health services.
