Former presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has dismissed the current discourse about referendum saying there was no need to change the 2010 Constitution.
Welcoming reports that Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Nyeri and Siaya had opposed Thirdway Alliance-led Punguza Mizigo Bill, Dida said Kenyans do not need such initiatives from the same people who have been claiming they wrote the current Constitution.
He referred to Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot who was the Director of Committee of Experts (CoE) that drafted the 2010 Constitution.
Dida, who is also the Alliance of Real Change party leader, predicted rejection of the Punguza Mizigo Bill by more MCAs and also urged Kenyans to shoot down a referendum generated from the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which he nicknamed 'Building Bellies Initiative).
"Thirdway Alliance should prepare for more "REJECTED" from these county assemblies. I said it before, we don't need another constitution from the same people who have been claiming "I wrote the constitution". And when the Building Bellies Initiative comes, let's fail it!" he tweeted on Wednesday.
Exiled lawyer and author Miguna Miguna has also dismissed both Punguza Mizigo Bill and the BBI saying he was backing enforcement of the 2010 Constitution.
"Translation for those who have been hypnotized not to comprehend: I don't support any constitutional amendments - whether by #punguzamzigo or the HandChieth team. I support the ENFORCEMENT of the existing Constitution and the struggle to RESTRUCTURE the neocolonial STATE," he said in a recent tweet.
