Mombasa Governor Ali Joho has come out to condemn that attack on Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and Nyali MP Mohammed Ali.
The two leaders were pelted with stones on Friday while addressing journalists together with other leaders ahead of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting in Mombasa.
The group of youth who were armed with stones prevented the leaders from addressing the media at Lotus Hotel.
Governor Joho reacting to the incident said leaders and their views should be respected by everyone.
“We have to be tolerant. Every view is important. We don’t want any disruptions or interference. We want every voice to be heard, every opinion is important. The one who organized the goons, we condemn them,” said Joho.
Joho had said that leaders who will attend the Saturday BBI meeting should not use the event to drive their own agenda but focus on issues that will benefit Coast residents that will be captured in the BBI report.
Mombasa county director of communications Richard Chacha dismissed claims that Joho was behind the attack saying the governor has important issues to handle.
Chacha claimed that those behind the attack are not happy with the politics of Jumwa and Ali.
“Joho and other leaders are busy fixing national issues. The Governor is not a chaotic person, and has never been associated with chaos,” said Chacha.
Following the attack, ODM party leader Raila Odinga announced that the BBI rally which was scheduled to take place at Tononoka Grounds has been moved to Mama Ngina Waterfront Park.
