National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said that his main goal is seeing Deputy President William Ruto achieving his presidential bid.
Duale is among the Jubilee Party politicians who have openly endorsed the DP for the top seat, a goal he seeks to achieve in the 2022 polls.
The Garissa Township MP on Monday hinted that he might not seek any elective seat in the 2022 polls to focus on Ruto's candidature.
He stated that once Ruto is in power, he will be contented just lazing around at State House and watching him run the government.
"With the hustler in power, I will be okay just drinking tea at the State House like an elderly man, when he has a chance in the evening. (Huyo hustler, akiingia mimi hata nikikuwa tu mtu wa kukunywa chai hapo ikulu kama mzee wa mtaa wakati ako na nafasi ya jioni ni sawa)," he said.
The lawmaker made the remarks during an interview with Citizen TV, where he also weighed in on the proposed constitutional amendments.
Duale said that the country only has next year to implement changes contained in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), after which it will be hard.
"If there is any sincerity about the implementation of this BBI issue, then we only have next year to make leadership changes. (Kama kuna ukweli kwa haya mambo ya utekelezaji ya haya mambo ya BBI, mwaka ujao ndio mwaka pekee bahashishi tuko nayo ya kufanya mabadiliko ya uongozi)," he added.
Duale has personally thrown his weight behind the proposed changes, suggesting that the country should embrace a parliamentary governance structure.
