Renowned scholar and former presidential candidate Professor James Ole Kiyiapi had weighed in on the state of Nairobi.

Writing on Twitter on Friday, Prof Kiyiapi said that the Nairobi County was in need of a system overhaul.

He held the view that the flamboyant county boss was in need of help but would not be willing to accept that help.

Taking issue with the never-ending fights in the county assembly, Prof Kiyiapi said that there was need for change going forward.

"Nairobi City County requires a major system overhaul. Governor Mike Sonko needs help but won't accept. The County Assembly has been perpetually squabbling. The multi-agency renewal program has gone slow or all together stopped. Something here has to change!" Ole Kiyiapi said.

The former presidential candidate's intervention comes in the wake of serious questions about the leadership of Governor Mike Sonko.

This week, a section of Nairobi members of parliament took issue with the way the governor was steering the affairs of the county, saying that he needed to step up or face the wrath of Nairobians.

“The inability for Nairobi City County to operate is occasioned by among other issues the fact that the executive is not properly constituted. The county government is operating without a deputy governor,” Nairobi senator Sakaja
