Knowing how to act fast in case of a fire emergency can save your life and that of others. Most are the times people perish from fire outbreaks due to lack of information on how to handle that situation once it occurs.
To save lives during a fire outbreak, do the following;
1. Stay low to the ground
It is, more importantly, to note that poisonous flames and gases are often more dangerous than flames. In an event of a fire, make sure you crawl down not to inhale the smoke as you move towards the exits. If possible you can tie a wet handkerchief around your nose or mouth to filter out toxic particles.
2. Identify the fire exits
Whenever you find yourself in a new place, make sure you request to know where the exits are in case they are not marked. Be sure you are aware of where you can escape to once a fire outbreak occurs.
3. Avoid elevators
Once you find yourself in a building and a fire scene has occurred, avoid using the elevators since most fail to work in case of a serious fire. Use the stairs if you do not want to get stuck in the building.
4. Use available ways to put off the fire
Make sure you are knowledgeable on how to use fire extinguishers in any building you work from. Once you realize that is not working, call for help as fast as possible to avoid losing lives.
