A section of leaders from Uasin Gishu county have eulogised the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, following her demise on Monday afternoon.
Laboso who was suffering from cancer died on Monday at Nairobi hospital aged 58.
Addressing the media outside the county headquarters on Monday, Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno said Laboso's death is a big blow to the country.
“On behalf of Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, my behalf, and people of Uasin Gishu, I want to send a message of condolence to the people of Bomet for the loss of their dear governor Joyce Laboso. May God give you strength during this hard time,” Chemno said.
“I want to request President Uhuru Kenyatta to declare cancer a national disaster since many lives have been lost on the same,” he added.
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and his Kesses counterpart Swarup Mishra eulogised Laboso as an industrious and brilliant leader.
I wish to express my sympathies and sincere condolences on behalf of the people of Kapseret to the family, friends, Council of Governors and the people of Bomet County over the untimely loss of Governor Joyce Laboso. H.E. Joyce lost her battle with cancer. It's a big blow to our country to lose such an industrious and brilliant leader. Joyce will be greatly remembered on her commendable role she played as the Deputy Speaker in the 11th parliament and recently as the Governor of Bomet. Muutyo missing pikchok," Sudi said.
“It is with deep sorrow and disbelief that I have learned with profound shock the pass on of Joyce Cherono Laboso Bomet Governor. As a country, we have lost a leader who passionately pursued the interest of her people even while facing a personal challenge. On behalf of my Kesses people and my behalf I wish the family, friends and the people of Bomet whom she represented condolence and prayers at this trying times,” Mishra said.
