A group of legislators from the Mt Kenya region have declared their opposition to specific proposals expected to be tabled by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The team of over 30 MPs and Senators on Thursday said they will be opposing a suggestion to return to the parliamentary system from the current presidential one.
"Our people are underrepresented. What we want is one man one vote," said Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni on behalf of the group, during a press conference in Parliament.
The group argued that in as much as there is need for unity, there is also dire need for the changes to be able to address matters leadership representation, and allocation of resources.
The leaders promised to hold a meeting and give their take after the BBI team hands the report to President Uhuru Kenyatta, which is expected to happen soon, after Uhuru's return from Russia.
In a statement on Wednesday, the team said it has concluded the report-writing job, and has communicated the same to the president.
"The joint secretaries have officially communicated to the Office of the President that the Building Bridges Initiative report is ready for handing over to the President," it said.
The announcement from the Mt Kenya legislators comes barely a week after President Kenyatta said he will not only support the BBI report, but also push its proposals to success.
