Deputy President William Ruto has maintained that he has what it takes to ascend to power in 2022.
Ruto is using different strategies to ensure he remains relevant in the political scene as well as keep his dream alive. In his political tact which he has mastered over the years, he has embarked on the following:
1. Combating fake news
Ruto has on several occasions raised concern over fake news. He has dismissed claims that there is a rift between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta. Ruto has severally lamented the publishing of fake news with the sole intent to tarnish his name.
2. Branding himself
Ruto has branded himself a hustler. Many Kenyans are suffering in silence and they want someone who understands them. The DP has used the tactic to win the hearts of millions as he positions himself to succeed Uhuru, who is completing his second and last term in power.
3. Identification of voter rich areas
Ruto has identified some of the regions he needs to win the presidency in. He has been making incessant trips to the Western region as he seeks to ascend to power.
His attempts to gain access to the Mt Kenya vote-rich region has been thwarted on several occasions but he is determined to continue with his forays. Using his foot soldiers, Ruto stands a chance to win votes from some of the regions many people think he will not manage in 2022.
Over the weekend, he pitched a tent in Nyeri where he interacted with different leaders.
4. Understanding voter needs
Voters have needs. Ruto knows that churches reflect what happens in society. He keeps visiting churches to understand what people want at the end of the day. He has been on the forefront in donating towards churches. He has insisted that he will not stop doing so no matter what happens.
5. Competitor analysis
Ruto knows that Raila is one of his greatest threats as he seeks to rise to power. He never keeps quiet when Raila makes a statement. He uses the words of the opposition to make a new move.
