There is no sane Luhya who will vote for Deputy President William Ruto, says Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli. Atwoli told Daily Nation that Ruto’s endless visits will not bear fruits as he seeks to ascend to power after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s retirement.

Atwoli said that the region will unite to back one of their own or a development-oriented leader for the presidency and not Ruto.

He said that Ruto can hold meetings with Western leaders including Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula but he will not get the support of the region.

"Ruto can come to Western 1,000 times and talk to all leaders, Mudavadi included, but there is no Luhya who in his right mind will vote for him,” declared.

He asked Mudavadi not to allow Ruto to arm-twist him to back his candidature. Atwoli said that Mudavadi needs to look for persons with a vision to work with him before 2022, adding that Ruto has proven time and again that he is not a good leader for the top seat. He also said that Ruto lacks the interest of Kenyans at heart.

"Ruto has belittled Mudavadi for a long time and equated him to a white ant. It will be very foolish for anyone in Mudavadi's camp to think or advice for an alignment with Ruto," said Atwoli, as quoted by Daily Nation.
