A number of Kisumu county netizens have expressed their anger towards Kisumu county government for not paying nurses on time leading to the prolonged strike.
George Otieno who could not hold his tears told the press that when he arrived at the Kisumu County Hospital he found the entrance gate locked and only to be told that there were no medical services. His anger rose as no one could treat his wounds as he looked injured all over.
“With injuries, I have nurses at Kisumu County Hospital tells me there is no treatment claiming they are not yet paid,” said George Otieno in agony.
Jane Adhiambo who had travelled from Siaya County to seek for proper medication for his son also told the press that she had spent a lot during her trips to Kisumu, having been visited the facility for two weeks now.
“I have been coming here bringing this kid for treatment, he’s been collapsing and I was told the facility offers drugs for them freely,” she said.
Kisumu County Nurses Association Secretary-General Maurice Opetu also told the press that nurses will not get back to work until they are paid their salaries. Opetu noted that they signed an agreement with the county government that nurses would be paid on time and get promotions according, saying they will not tolerate empty promises.
“They should get prepared especially in the hands of health workers because we are not going to tolerate empty promises anymore, we signed an agreement that we will be paid in time and promoted by the end September if not the strike will continue,” said Opetu.
