Gingivitis also known as gum overgrowth is a major cause of concern. Gum growth can occur even on a decayed tooth. This is a mouth disease that shouldn't be ignored. Different causes have been reported to bring about this condition.

1. Plaque buildup
Observing good hygiene can be of great importance. Plaques are usually caused by not brushing and flossing the teeth on a regular basis. The plaques are said to have bacteria that can easily cause inflammation of the gums and make them more reddish. Usually, the plaques can further develop into tartar when they are not ousted early enough.
2. Some disease
Diseases like cancers, diabetes and HIV are said to be also the causing factors of this condition. Gum overgrowth can also unveil to you that you are apparently suffering from the aforementioned diseases.
3. Changes in hormones
You shouldn't get much worried when you have realised that you have an abnormal growth in your gums. This could mean that you are either pregnant or your periods are about to start. In some scenarios, it is a sign of menopause.
4. Drugs
Some medications can afflict your oral health by causing massive growth of your gums. Be warned with the type of drugs you are using. Some have adverse effects.
