Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has disclosed why the newly-constructed Dandora stadium project nearly stalled.
Sonko on Tuesday said that the engineers and some county officers wanted to hike the cost of the project.
"Tueke mchezo kando tupeleke Nairobi yetu mbele.(Let's stop avoid games and take Nairobi forward). For instance, Dandora stadium was almost stalled coz (sic) of sabotage by some engineers and officers who wanted to hike the by 100M on top," Sonko wrote on Facebook.
Sonko who was recently ranked as one of the best governors in Kenya by London-based pollster, All Africa Advisors (AAA) went ahead to say that Nairobi will soon have eight new modern FIFA standard stadiums.
"Nairobi will soon have 8 new modern FIFA standard stadiums. 4 already approved during last financial year being Dandora (Embakasi North), Kihumbuni (Westlands), Woodley (Kibra) and Ziwani (Starehe)," he said
"Next year we shall have Mukuru(Embakasi south) Riruta(Dangoretti south) Mihango or Jacaranda (Embakasi East) and Muhuri Muchiri(Kasarani)," he added.
The new Dandora stadium is undergoing final touches with minor works remaining before it's unveiling according to Sonko.
"Today our team is finalizing the final touches in the modern players changing rooms before they start they start laying the artificial turf," sonko posted earlier this month.
