The two, who include a female employee at Kenya Airways were nabbed over their links to narcotics believed to have been imported from the US.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have now embarked on establishing whether the suspects have any link to a relative of the late tycoon Njenga Karume.

The move was reached after it emerged that they had been in constant communication with the kin in the recent past before they were arrested over the illegal trade.

The drugs are suspected to be processed bhang that was transported from Los Angeles. The recipient of the consignment was one Jared Amolo in Nairobi while the sender of the parcel was Marcus White of Catalina Street, Los Angeles.

Police also realised some of the drugs were prepared into cookies before transportation. It remains unclear how the drugs passed through the authority at the port of Mombasa.

The suspects were presented before the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport court where they were charged.

The court allowed police to hold them for five more days pending investigations into the matter.
