President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday evening joined the rest of the nation in mourning the death of Court of Appeal Judge Otieno Odek.
Justice Odek was found dead at his Milimani home in Kisumu and the cause of his death is yet to be established.
The veteran Judge was set to preside over a number of cases on Monday only to delay coming to court thus raising concerns.
In his message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of the late Justice Odek, President Kenyatta said he was shocked and deeply saddened by the death of the Appellate Judge, State House said.
Uhuru said the death of Justice Odek is not only a big blow to his close family and the judiciary but also to the whole country which he served with commitment and dedication in the dispensation of justice without fear or favour.
“In this hour of sorrow and grief, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Prof Justice James Otieno Odek’s family, relatives and friends,” President Kenyatta said.
The president also described the Appellate judge as an intellectual whose contributions in the legal field will be remembered forever.
Prof Odek was among few distinguished law professors in the country, who often lectured at the University of Nairobi.
