ODM leader Raila Odinga has retained and maintained his political muscles, which will come in handy in the 2022 general elections, political analyst Alex Odhiambo has said.
He says that as things stand now, the former Prime Minister has more than one option for the race, both of which will succeed; the first one being running for the presidency.
He says that Raila can also play a kingmaker role, and run behind another candidate, which will record an even better result if he teams up with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Raila's options remain as either running himself or supporting a compromise candidate. If he decides to converge politically with Uhuru and support a joint candidate, that would be a game shot,” he said on Friday.
He added that should the two rally behind a compromise candidate, their supporters would automatically make the person president, beating any other candidate.
“Uhuru and Raila's political profiles would easily propel such a candidate to power,” he added.
His observation comes at a time when the two appear close, which their allies have hinted could see them approach the 2022 general elections in the same team.
However, the two have stated clearly that their union, after their 2018 truce, is solely aimed at uniting the country and has no political dimensions.
