A former powerful assistant minister during the era of retired President Daniel Moi is currently admitted in ICU at a Nairobi hospital.
Dr Hezron Manduku, who served as Nyaribari Masaba MP for two terms, has been battling a disease for a while. He was first elected in 1992.
After edging out Prof Sam Ongeri, he was appointed assistant minister Foreign Affairs. In 1997, he lost to Ongeri before recapturing the seat in 2002.
Dr Manduku is a medical doctor who has previously worked at Kenyatta National Hospital, Kakamega Hospital, Meru among others.
In 2017, he spent most of his time in the US for treatment. Politician Don Bosco Gichana revealed his condition on Wednesday when a section of bloggers claimed that he had died.
"Visit to Hon Dr Manduku. The great man doing great," wrote Don Bosco, his close friend of many years.
A family member who did not wish to be mentioned said Dr Manduku has been admitted in a Nairobi hospital for a while and that has shown tremendous improvement.
"He's not dead like some people want you to believe. He's been unwell. He has been receiving church elders and family members only," he said.
Manduku is the founder of HEMA Hospital and school. The hospital has been in operation every since he left public practice for private business in 1978.
