Senate Minority Leader James Orengo wants the Building Bridges Initiative team to finish the process within six months by drafting bills.
Orengo says thereafter, the process should be completed through implementation by October this year to avoid instances where it will interfere with the electoral cycle.
Kenya is set to go for polls in 2022, slightly over 950 days from today. President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to retire.
"We can't drag this process beyond October because it will be compromised by the election cycle," he said.
President Kenyatta recently extended the term for BBI team although he never gave a specific timeline.
Orengo was speaking on Wednesday at Dr Oburu Oginga's home in Bondo. Oburu said issues that require referendum should be identified.
"The issues that require a referendum will be isolated and made into proposals for bills," he added.
"We need to see a united country, put an end to the cycle of violence which is brought about by rigging of elections and push for creation of the position of an executive Prime Minister," he added.
ODM leader Raila Odinga recently hinted at the possibility of pushing for a strong Prime Minister position in the report.
