A slew of international publications on Saturday covered the West Pokot landslide that has claimed at least 29 lives.

In an article titled "Kenya landslide: At least 24 killed after heavy rains", the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the deadly landslide had been triggered by severe weather conditions.

According to BBC, Nyarkulian and Parua villages had been worst affected with one bridge reportedly swept away.

"At least 24 people are reported to have died in landslides caused by severe weather in West Pokot county, Kenya. Officials told local media that the bodies of at least 12 people, including seven children, were recovered on Saturday.The landslides, affecting the villages of Nyarkulian and Parua, were reportedly caused by heavy rains, " the BBC reported.

"Kenya landslides kill 29 as homes swept away after torrential rain", the Guardian's headline screamed.

The story said Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i confirmed the landslide that occurred.

“We are saddened to confirm that 12 people from Tapach and Parua in Pokot South, and 17 from Tamkal in Pokot Central lost their lives,” the interior minister Fred Matiang’i said according to the Guardian. “

Our profound sympathies go to the families and friends of those who have been affected," he added.

The New York Times focused on the death toll, and a conformation from CS Matiang'i.

"Heavy rains unleashed overnight floods in western Kenya. Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said 17 people died in a mudslide in the village of Takmal in the Pokot Central district, while 12 others lost their lives in mudslides in the villages of Parua and Tapach in Pokot South, " the New York Times wrote.
