Lawyer Miguna Miguna has congratulated Thirdway Alliance Kenya party Leader Ekuro Aukot after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) verified 1 million signatures needed to amend the constitution.
In a tweet, Miguna said that the new development has shown that the people of this nation are ready for change.
He asked Ekuro not to tire up as he seeks to change the lives of millions of Kenyans who feel oppressed by the current regime.
Miguna, who has been vocal on matters of national interest, also noted that a referendum is unstoppable. He further reiterated that it is the only means in which the revolutionists can get bad governors out of power.
“I congratulate @EAukot and the #PunguzaMizigoBill2019 team for strictly complying with the constitutional requirements with respect to their referendum agenda. Their endeavor strengthens the rule of law and indicts the unconstitutional #Handcheque initiative. #DespotsMustFall,” he tweeted.
Wafula Chebukati led commission on Thursday confirmed that the signatures Aukot’s party had presented for verification belonged to voters.
The Former Presidential candidate managed to get 1,222,541 signatures registered voters from different parts of the country.
“Thereafter, the Speakers of the respective County Assemblies will submit the decisions of their respective County Assemblies to the Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate pursuant to Article 257(6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” read the statement part of the statement from the commission.
Following the approval of the signatures, the party will now seek approval from the County Assemblies.
