Elijah Okoth, Lela Korowe FC’s captain died after a long battle with Hepatitis B.

“The club is in a mourning period, our captain is no more. Sad,” the team announced the sad news via Facebook.

Okoth was battling Hepatitis B and was at one time mid this year admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referrals Hospital (Russia). 

Lela Korowe FC is based in Nyando Constituency and takes part in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division two league.

Okoth’s death comes less than a week after another player died in Kisumu. 

Moses Ayoo Awuoth of Rai Green Stars collapsed on the pitch as his team was taking on Renja football club at Ragumo grounds in Kolwa Central ward on Sunday, September 1.

According to Rai Green Stars club coordinator Hesborn Ochieng, Ayoo slowly went down lying flat on the ground, before he succumbed later. 

“We saw Ayoo going down slowly, lying flat on the ground in the middle of the game, we stopped the match and rush to see what could have happened,” Ochieng said. 

The budding defender was a form two student at Kisumu Boys High School.
