It will be difficult for politicians to campaign against Dr Fred Matiang'i's faction in 2022 across Gusii should the interior minister join politics.
For the last five months, Dr Matiang'i has managed to pull together a team of politicians ably under the hands of Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae.
Although the team has been pushing to have him as a candidate in 2022 presidential polls, the super minister is yet to declare any intentions.
City lawyer Steve Mogaka on Monday said that the minister use managed to assemble a formidable team, which could create a tough campaign team.
He said that eventually, Matiang'i could stand out as a defacto spokesman for the region thus difficult to campaign against him.
"He has managed to assemble a formidable team and for the first time since 2002, Gusii region could listen to one voice. This is a big achievement for him," he said.
Mogaka added: "It will be very risky to go again his wishes. Many politicians could lose due to the fact that he is now widely respected across the land."
Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta added more duties to Dr Fred Matiang'i, virtually making him kind of Prime Minister. He will be in charge of Presidential Delivery Unit.
In the executive order signed early this year, Dr Matiang'i was put in charge of powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee.
