Police officers in Murang'a are investigating an incident where an elderly woman was reportedly raped and murdered by unknown people in Gichegecha village, Kiharu constituency.
It is reported that Consolata Njoki, 80, disappeared after having dinner with her family on Sunday evening, after which she went to her house to sleep bud did not show up on Monday.
According to her son Stephen Mwangi, her house was found locked, resulting in a search, before she was found allegedly raped and killed 100 metres from her house after a search.
"We don't know who did this to her. It is very painful for us as the family and we call for speedy investigation to have the culprits arrested and charged," he said.
The incident, which has left villagers shocked, was confirmed by County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua, who confirmed that she was raped, and as well assaulted before death.
He said investigations have began in a bid to find out the actions that might have preceded her death, with the police boss saying that her body showed signs of being hit by a blunt object.
Her family members have called for quick investigations, which the police have indicated will begin with a postmortem on her body.
