The proprietor of Mogeni Tea Factory, the late Stephen Mogeni was on Sunday laid to rest at his home in Kerumbe in Borabu Constituency, Nyamira County.
Addressing mourners, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the late tycoon will be dearly missed and remembered for his efforts to eradicate poverty from villages by setting up a tea factory where several local youths were employed to work.
"Mogeni's contribution to society in agriculture and education will forever be remembered. Our prayers and thoughts are with the bereaved family during this time of mourning. May the almighty God rest his soul in Eternal peace," Maangi stated.
He challenged leaders and professionals from the entire Gusii region to invest back at home saying the economy will only improve if more local investors invest back at home.
"As leaders, we must follow Mogeni's footsteps by creating employment opportunities for our people the same way Mogeni was doing. Mogeni has left a mark behind which every leader should embrace," he noted.
In attendance at the funeral were Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, Governors; James Ongwae of Kisii and John Nyagarama of Nyamira County among many other leaders.
