The National Police Service(NPS) has devised a new way of taming crime in the nation's leading towns and cities.
As per the new strategic plan which runs between 2018-2022, the NPS will increase surveillance cameras in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu to boost security.
While launching the plan on Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said the government will also improve police stations and camps to enable the officers serve Kenyans.
He said that the government will also refurbish and upgrade police residences, as well as improving the police to population ratio from the current 1:444 to 1:403.
“The current strength of the National Police Service uniformed human capital is 106,837 and is projected to increase to 126,392 by 2022,” he said.
In a plan which is expected to consume Sh377.6 billion, the state also seeks to build a National Police Referral Hospital and bring in more police vehicles, motorbikes and speed votes.
The government will also be hiring more investigators and issuing new uniforms for the officers, all in a bid to give Kenyans better services through the police service.
“We shall also be training all police officers on the new curriculum to ensure that they are up to date,” said Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
