Benson Juma formerly a street child and a founder of Amazing Grace Street Care International is calling on both the National and County Government to construct at least one rehabilitation Center in Uasin Gishu County.
Juma says this will help street children get the rehabilitation services since lack of the facility has become a jeopardy in the rehabilitation process.
“It has become hard for us to rehabilitates the street children due to lack of the facility. I, therefore, urge National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), National and County governments to establish at least one public rehabilitation center and cases of street children will be a thing of the past,” Juma said.
The founder of Amazing Grace Street Care International who spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday said it's sad there is no public rehabilitation Center in Uasin Gishu County.
“The nearest Public Rehabilitation center we have is in Kisumu but others are private which charge Sh 100,000 per month which a street child cannot afford. How do you expect the issue of drugs among street children to end if we don’t have such facilities at our disposal?" he added.
The former street urchin further revealed that drug peddlers are flocking hard drugs in the county and are taking advantage of the street children.
He said if the county will have one rehabilitation center, such cases will be a thing of the past.
