Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the new Special Envoy to the Republic of South Sudan.
The Former Vice President is expected to take over the position following formal appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The appointment has been confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a statement released to media houses on Tuesday.
The Kamba political kingpin has been given the post as the government seeks to ensure there is shared prosperity within the region. Following his appointment, Kalonzo is now tasked with ensuring there is long-lasting peace as well as security within the region.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulates Hon Dr Kalonzo Musyoka on his appointment and stands ready to support the Special Envoy in the delivery of his mandate,” read the statement.
Kalonzo’s appointment came after Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in power hosted South Sudan President Salva Kiir for a two-day official state visit. During the tour, Uhuru and Kiir vowed to work together to ensure there is prosperity in the region. In the recent past, Kalonzo has enjoyed a cordial relationship with President Kenyatta.
When his father died, Kalonzo promised to be President Uhuru’s errand boy. The remarks, however, did not augur well with a section of leaders from his camp who felt he had demeaned himself.
