During an ODM rally in Kibra, where the party introduced candidates that were seeking its ticket, the former deejay knelt before the former Prime Minister, pleading for his endorsement for the ticket and the ultimate race.

Speaking on Saturday, Koigi said that the same is not unique to Raila, who some few months ago was again seen sitting before a kneeling Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli and County Assembly Majority boss Ken Onyango.

He said that the same, which he termed worshipping political leaders, was a common practice during the retired President Daniel Moi's era, who made it a must for people seeking to address him when he is sited to kneel down.

The former Subukia lawmaker said that Moi saw himself as the ultimate leader, to an extent that he did not want anyone to stand higher than him, which made the practice a tradition among people surrounding him.

"If you wanted to address Moi while he is sited it was a must that you kneel so that you don't appear taller than him (Ilikuwa kama unataka kuongea na Moi kama ameketi chini lazima upige magoti ili usimzidi kwa urefu)," he claimed.

The leader who was never in good terms with Moi, including being jailed for years for fighting Moi's single-party rule, made the remarks on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show.

About Raila, he bashed him for accepting the honour, further bashing Darlin for equating the ODM chief to God.

"Those were dictatorial days but we now have democracy. Why should we continue worshipping people who are not God (Ule ulikuwa wakati wa udikteta lakini sasa tuko na demokrasia. Mbona tuendelee kuabudu watu ambao sio Mungu)?" he added.

Ironically, the attacks come only two years after the two leaders reunited after Wamwere trooped to Raila after failing to clinch the Jubilee Party ticket for the Nakuru senatorial race.
