Politicians in Nyamira County have been warned against politicizing the upcoming census exercise scheduled to commence on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba speaking in Nyamira town on Friday said any politician found discouraging residents over the census exercise will be arrested and taken to court.
"Census exercise should not be politicized. The people of Nyamira should not be incited by any politician to boycott the exercise or disrupt it because it is through the census exercise the National and County Governments can prepare policies and development programmes that propel the nation for a decade," said Mariba.
The county security boss appealed to local politicians to be at the front line to ensure all residents are counted as required.
Mariba insisted that security will be tight noting that those recruited to conduct the exercise have nothing to fear about as their security is guaranteed.
"We have enough police officers to provide security before, during and after the census exercise. Residents should ignore any local politician who may be out to incite them with an aim of seeking political mileage," stated the County Commissioner.
He also advised residents to remain in their houses starting the night of August 24, 2019 so as to be counted.
