Political analyst Prof Edward Kisiang'ani has supported Siaya Senator James Orengo's remarks on conflict of interest controversy.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had instructed AG Kihara Kariuki to come up with a bill that will block legislators serving as lawyers from appearing in court.
Mr Orengo, who also serves as Senate Minority Leader, dismissed the president's approach, arguing that the directive targets lawyers alone.
But Kisiang'ani now says the presidential directive only aims at lawyers, dismissing it as ill-intended.
"Hon Orengo reacted angrily to Prezzo Uhuru's remark that lawyers who are also MPs shud not go to court to represent clients they shud be over sighting. Orengo argued the conflict of interest cancer cuts across all govt depts. I agree with Orengo. We can't target lawyers alone!" he tweeted.
Already, lawyers serving as MPs have opposed the bill, even before the Attorney General formally submits it to parliament.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei insisted that the bill will not see the light of the day when it shall eventually make it to the house.
“The Bill will go nowhere. We shall continue practicing because the proposal is unconstitutional, illegal and ill-intentioned. It amounts to punishing politicians,” said Mr Cherargei as quoted by the Standard.
